How to Paint Pottery & Ceramics:  Tracing Logos and Images

To make these awesome logo coasters, we simply printed the image from the internet and traced the image on the bisque using transfer or tracing paper.    You can trace your favorite images or logos to many pieces of pottery!

Supplies

  • Square Tile Bisque x 2
  • Colors: Gold (4)
  • Fun Writer Colors: White; Gold (4); and Green (58)
  • Image / Logo
  • Transfer Paper
  • Pen
  • Large, Flat Brush
  • Small, Flat Brush

Ceramic Logo Tracing Pottery Coaster

Steps

  1. Trace Logo – Place transfer paper on tile with grey side down. Place logo on top of transfer paper and tape down.  With a pen, trace the logo.
  2. With a fun writer, fill in the center of the “G” with white.
  3. With a fun writer, add a buffer around the logo. Then, with a large, flat brush, add 3 coats of gold paint.  Tip:  place the tip of the brush in the “buffer zone” and brush out.
  4. With a fun writer, fill in the border of the “G” with green.
  5. With a small, flat brush, paint the back of the coaster. Then, keep the brush parallel to the sides of the coaster and dab paint onto the sides.

I would trace my son’s high school logo… the Chaska Hawks from Chaska, MN. It would be really neat to make a coaster for each of my three sons, maybe on our winter visit to Wilderness. Even though we live in Minnesota, our oldest son (a freshman in high school) loves the Packers! His room is painted in Packer green and gold stripes!

How funny, I too would pick the Packers logo. Even though I’m from Illinois, I proudly display green and gold all over my house, especially on the flag outside. Go Pack!!

We are tried & true for our beloved Green & Gold, so we would definitely use the Packer “G”!! We are also a hockey family and would have the Winged Wheel of the Detroit Red Wings on some pottery, as well! We had a great time at Wilderness this weekend and can’t wait to come back in 2 months to celebrate our 20th anniversary! (we are even bringing the kids!) And err would very much like to thank the girls who worked Friday night, Oct. 4 – I would especially like to thank Kayla for letting the boys finish up their projects do they could both being them home on Saturday!! What great customer service!!!!

High school logos are great! We’ve had a number of young men and women paint their high school logos on various items, including our football helmet bank. Looking forward to your visit, Shelly!

The effect of going from light to dark colors is called "ombre." It looks great and is super easy! You can apply the ombre effect to many pieces of pottery, and you can use all kinds of colors (we have so many different shades of pink in our studios, it's not even funny)! My favorite alternate title for this video blog is: Four Shades of Purple!
