How to Paint Pottery & Ceramics: Mustache "My Stache" Box

Our favorite month is "Movember," and we decided to add a mustache onto this round box. Add-ons may be placed on your item during the firing process to be permanently fused to your piece. We have lots of add-ons to choose from, and we've seen people get really creative with them.

Supplies

  • Round Box Bisque
  • Large Mustache Bisque
  • Paint Colors: Purple (28) and Black
  • Stickers
  • Toothpick
  • Small and Medium Brushes

Ceramic Mustache My Stache Box

Steps

  1. Apply stickers

  2. Paint 3 coats of Purple (28) to the top and bottom of the box

  3. Paint 3 coats of Black to the mustache and the inside of the box

  4. Add black stripes to the lid of the box. Imagine the box top is a clock and paint your first two stripes at 12 and 6 o’clock. Then, place additional marks in between. Continue until you are happy with the number of stripes.

  5. Using a toothpick, remove stickers.

Wow, never knew about the add-ons. What a great idea. And to think they permanently adhere during firing. Can’t wait to make my next masterpiece with an add-on!!

I painted a bowl with stickers at our stay. It was a rememberence of our family get together we had. I use it to keep everyday jewlery and my glasses in. I love it and can’t wait to do another one next year for our annual get together:)

I’ve never used them, but it’s a nice idea that I’d like to try. Didn’t know that they permanently fuse during firing.

I didn’t get the chance to look at them. I would have loved to add the add-ons. I also didn’t know that they fuse together when you fire them. My son and I just enjoyed the time doing an activity together since we both enjoy art. I definitly can’t wait to get back there and paint with my son again.

I love your website! I recently made 2 pots. One of them I fired on a penguin and the other a dog. I am giving these 2 pots to my teachers and I’m sure they’ll love them.

The effect of going from light to dark colors is called "ombre." It looks great and is super easy! You can apply the ombre effect to many pieces of pottery, and you can use all kinds of colors (we have so many different shades of pink in our studios, it's not even funny)! My favorite alternate title for this video blog is: Four Shades of Purple!
