How to Paint Pottery & Ceramics:  Chevron Pattern

The chevron pattern is very popular, and you may have seen projects with chevron on Pinterest. We love the chevron pattern, and in this video we show you an easy way to do it! You can apply the chevron pattern on many pieces of pottery. See below for template chevron patterns.

Supplies

  • Square Vase Bisque
  • Chevron Pattern
  • Scissors
  • Paint Colors: Yellow (2); Light Grey (73); and Grey (74)
  • Water
  • Small and Medium Flat Brushes
  • Sponge with Handle

 Ceramic Vase with Chevron Technique

Steps

  1. Print chevron design and cut out
  1. Apply 3 coats of a base layer of paint. While the 3rd coat is still wet, place the chevron on the pottery.
  1. With a sponge with handle, dab a little water on top of the chevron paper so it sticks to the pottery
  1. Paint 3 coats of a darker color over the chevron paper and base layer of paint
  1. Peel off the chevron paper
  1. Say “Wow, this looks amazing!!”

The effect of going from light to dark colors is called "ombre." It looks great and is super easy! You can apply the ombre effect to many pieces of pottery, and you can use all kinds of colors (we have so many different shades of pink in our studios, it's not even funny)! My favorite alternate title for this video blog is: Four Shades of Purple!
