How to Paint Pottery & Ceramics: Marbling Technique
The Marbling Technique on this heart plate is fun and easy! The pink and red colors of this marbled heart plate were inspired by, what else, love! You can apply the Marbling Technique to many pieces of pottery. And what a better Valentine's Day gift?!
Heart Plate Bisque
Flat Paint Brush
Paint Colors: Light Pink (14) and Dark Pink (18)
Fun Writer Colors: Pink (16) and Dark Pink (18)
Water down base color: light pink (14) – in a cup, add water to the paint and stir thoroughly until the mixture is the consistency of milk
Pour the mixture onto the heart plate, and tilt the plate around until the entire bottom of the plate is covered with the base color
Add accent colors: pink (16) and dark pink (18). Take the pin and pink top off of the fun writers and squirt paint across the plate.
Pick up plate and tilt around to create the marbling effect
Drain excess paint into a cup
Paint rim dark pink (18) with a flat brush – apply 3 coats of paint

The effect of going from light to dark colors is called "ombre." It looks great and is super easy! You can apply the ombre effect to many pieces of pottery, and you can use all kinds of colors (we have so many different shades of pink in our studios, it's not even funny)!
