Ask a Polka Dot Pots team member for the splatter box;
Place the banding wheel inside the splatter box and then place the mug UPSIDE DOWN on the banding wheel;
Load up a small, round brush with black paint (to the point that the paint is almost dripping off the brush); and
Start with your brush back and then, with a quick flick of the wrist, fling the paint forward on to the mug (TIP: finish with the brush pointing at the mug).

The effect of going from light to dark colors is called "ombre." It looks great and is super easy! You can apply the ombre effect to many pieces of pottery, and you can use all kinds of colors (we have so many different shades of pink in our studios, it's not even funny)! My favorite alternate title for this video blog is: Four Shades of Purple!
